These things succeed because of lax attitude to protection online.

Anyone with common sense should spot something amiss since your internet connection will be active when it would normally be idle.
Yes I know the activity icon flashes at random, but this will be different.
your FW will request an outgoing connection or block the attempts dependant on your config.
In any case, correctly functioning firewalls should stop it, right?

If you want to keep an eye, Install a bandwidth monitor, or simply watch the connection icon.

Not me personally, but at work a couple of colleges decided to spend a day watching porn and signed up for some sights through a hotmail account and managed to infect 90% of the computers at work.

btw - I'm not the IT manager at work! lol

Here were lies the problem . I'm still going into people homes and explaining to them how a anti-virus program work . That
the defintions must be updated regularly let alone the yearly subscriptions .I just went to this guy house who bought a new brand name computer which has Norton pre install 90 days crap . He thought his computer has an anti virus program working which in fact it wasn't . I think most consumers want to turn on their computer and have it do what ever they need it for not have to worry about what things they need to learn ( drivers updates , firewall , anti-virus , spyware scans ) most don't have the time to learn or don't care to learn and some just don't get it at all even after you explained to them . Maybe we should look for the "Cloud"
