Cable Connectors

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good message board where I can get information about which coax cable connections are best? Or if anyone here knows that would be great too.

Looking for info like which work best with ditigal cable and internet connection. Which I believe is RG6 Aluminum shield, but also looking for connectors, spliters, if a certain type of crimping tool is needed, etc.

Thanks.

NYF.

The coax you suggested would be fine. I would use the twist on F connectors. My ISP fitted crimped on connectors. Partly depends on durability and if the cable is subject to frequent movement. IMO

I've repaired the cable in my garden that I accidentally chopped, via soldering. It caused no loss of performance, so getting the "best" connectors would probably not make any real difference.

Splitting, in a cable, I wouldn't do. It needs to be an isolated splitter. It will allways cause a signal loss. Not a problem if the signal is good and the cable lengths not too great, but a point to bear in mind.

Thanks for responding, I'll check out that web site.

I may want to do some more spliting in the basement where there won't be a cable box connected to the TVs and top performance is not a great concern. Might as well use the best though.

Cablevision gave me a three way spliter to use, if I wanted to connect a TV in the room where I have my internet computer. It would replace a double that I had in a different part of the house. One of the three outputs is designed for internet. I tried it, and so far it seems to work fine. When I set it up though, I'd rather connect it with the better cables. Mostly for the computer which are probably old.

I have most of the tools already because I have played around with connecting cables in the past. Crimping tool, and some tool that makes the end of the cable adapt to the connector with the wire sticking out. I don't know if these will work with the RG6.

Thanks.
NYF.
