prevent picture/video download

have web-site with vids on it... set up to play in flash so no right clicking can download file....

is there a way to fully protect source files so people have to return to site to watch??

interestingly/annoyingly enough, we loaded realtime player onto our computer and THEN noticed a major insight....

when we NOW have a look at our site and mouse over the video section... a new POP UP sits at the top of the video (we didnt put it there on the website build)... It Says ''DOWNLOAD VIDEO'' and sure enough when you click it, it downloads the video from the source... further more it then asks if want to email to friend and if click 'YES' it just asks for friends email and sends vid copy there!

Do we as webbuilders and vid producers have to accept this... is there a way to protect/prevent downloads or is this the expected thing for visitors to websites?

cheers for thoughts

Inq

I think there's as many options for downloading web based video content as there are ways to stop it, but if you're insisting on flash video I think you'll have to live with it.

You could try contacting Adobe or Realplayer for info on disabling the Realplayer (et al) download button for your site. I'm certain it's doable, though you have to remember that the flash file is downloaded and stored on the visitor's computer and anyone with some knowledge can find the flash file and copy it. I'm not that au fait with it but maybe some kind of streaming video rather than a flash video might solve your problem.

Another option might be to include copyright notices and or adverts for your site within the video itself.

Oh sorry, and as far as pictures are concerned, you have no chance of protecting them. You can disable the right mouse-click and menu so they can't save a picture as, but it can be overridden ridiculously easily by alt or ctrl prtscrn and pasting it into a gfx program.

Best thing is not to show pics you don't want anyone to keep.
