Can only connect with an adaptor cable

The wireless router in my house is working fine, everyone else can connect, I could too for a couple of months but now my laptop will only connect if I plug it directly into the router. When I run diagnosis it tells me this 'may be due to timeout or user action'.
I'm definately trying to connect to the right network, and when I went home for christmas it connected to that network without any problem. The available networks are appearing on the screen.
Advent laptop, windows vista, tiscali broadband, if that helps.
Please help me! Please.

Make sure, if the router in your house has had a wireless security key set up, that you have entered that same key in your wireless settings for that network on your laptop.
