No Connection

I'm really lost here.. Okay so I have a laptop that I've been using for 3 months and its always been connected to the same router (through a ethernet cable) and it always worked fine but about 2 or 3 days ago I turned it on and it was connected but there wasn't any internet. I tried logging on msn but it said something about a gateway. I tried unplugging the router /turning it off and on but nothing worked so i hooked the router up to my old computer and it works fine. Can anyone help me cause I don't have clue what to do now.
