Internet : laptop connect but not the desktop
Problem : Internet gets connected to my laptop but not to the desktop PC.
Internet connection type
-------------------------
1. Broadband - Wired connection. Requires user name and password.
Laptop settings
---------------
1. WinXP, SP3.
2. IP settings : Auto detection
3. Anti-virus software installed (AVG)
Desktop PC settings
-------------------
1. WinXP, SP3.
2. IP settings : Auto detection
3. No Anti-virus software
4. LAN card : RealTek 8139 : New card.
Drivers are installed and it is shown properly (without any yellow warning symbols)
under Device Manager-->Network adapters
Observation
-----------
1. When I check the IP configuration using 'ipconfig'
IP address starts with 168.xxx.xxx.xxx
Things I have tried without success
------------------------------------
1. LAN card :
If the connection to the router is removed, it shows, "A network cable unplugged status" and
if the conncection is made to the router, it shows "Connected" status.
Is it sufficient to check that the LAN card and calbe are working fine.
2. Turning-off fire wall and checking -- still no improvement
3. Ran WINSOCK fix -- still no improvement
Please help me in this regards...I am not able to identify what the problem is.
Thanks in advance,
G S Naveen
