Question lag time on some pages with IE 6.0

My wife’s computer which is on Windows 2000 and IE 6.0.28 with the latest service and accessing the net through a cable modem sometimes has a very distinctive and annoying lag time when accessing some pages such as AA.com or microsoft.com but not on all pages. My w2k computer going thru the same modem and router but on IE5.0 can go to the same pages and not experience this lag time on loading and scrolling.

I have mirrored the advanced setting as much as possible, to no avail. I have tried Microsoft’s support page but found not matching problem listed.

any suggestions or out and out solutions would be appreciated.

Are both PCs running the same hardware specifications?

You cannot expect equal performance if they are not equal machines!

There may be a difference because of IE5 & IE6 but it shouldn't be noticeable.

Try another browser on her machine and see if download times decrease. I use Mozilla Firebird and wild horses wouldn't drag me back to IE.

I suppose it was just me then Loose, because I found Mozilla slower, if you were referring to speed?

I suggested Mozilla just as a comparison to IE 6.

Download speed wise I cannot truthfully tell the difference between Mozilla & IE 6.

I am lucky, I have a 1 Mbit / sec cable so speed between browsers is not an issue with me.

I prefer Mozilla because of ...

Built in 'Pop Up Stopper'

Tabbed Browsing with the ability to open multiple sites at the same time.

Text size control (Ctrl + & Ctrl -)

I always tell people to put Internet Explorer on a back burner and use an alternate browser for these reasons:
1. IE is integral to the xp operating system and is not easily removed or repaired. An alternate browser can be removed and/or installed easily.
2. Alternate browsers are rich in features that must be installed separately in IE. Tabbed windows, 'excellent' popup stopping, mail clients, auto-login, password management, skins, plugins, customizable, and clean trace, to name a few.
3. Alternate browsers are constantly updated and improved. IE is not.
4. There is no problem having two or more browsers installed as long as you have the room. Take advantage of the features you need in each browser.

Good alternate browsers are; Slimbrowser, Mie2, Firebird, Mozilla, Opera, Crazy, and Avant.
