transferring files
Why don't you use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in XP to do this? It is very easy.
Before you wipe out your old XP set up on your hard drive simply go to Accessories/system tools/Files and Setting Wizard. Run this and select what files and settings you want transfered. You will need to save the file the wizard will create to a CD or a different partition or second hard drive that you won't be reformatting. If all you want to transfer is the address book it would probably fit on a floppy.
Once you have saved that file, reformat your hard drive and reinstall XP fresh. Then run the Wizard again and restore the files and settings that you have saved.
This works really well. I was able to save my XP set up as well as my Outlook Express emails and address book, and Internet Explorer settings. Saves a lot of work. Good luck!
