Virus or evil code?????

I have some file with a long srring of gibberish for a name, ending with the extension ".!!!" The name varies, always the same extension. It shows up an erased file when I use Window Washer. My virus scanner does not pick it up, and I cannot pick it up if I use the search function. Disk investigator will pick it up as a file. Anyone have any idea what it is?

I looked at my shell extensions, and found that a file ending in .!!! is set to be run when clicked on. No such files found on my comp though. Sounds a bit ominous unless evidence suggests otherwise.
Are there any clues in the file properties/version dialog?
