Windows emulator

I just installed wine (Windows emulator) on my RedHat Linux 9. I tried installing windows applications. For different reasons none of them work.

One program would just freeze when the setup screen appears, and I eventually had to kill it.

Another program installed well, but I couldn't start it up. The executable file was a .cnt (could anyone tell me what that means).

if anyone knows how to use a windows emulator on Linux, please reply.

Just a random question: I just recently started using the LInux seriously. Where could I find a full in detail Tutorial of RedHat Linux 9 on the Internet?
