Linux and Centrino?

Hi there,

Just another question about Linux, for all you who know about it...

I am contemplating buying a new hard drive next summer for my laptop (just a small one to play around with), and I'm wondering if there are any distros of Linux that support Centrino laptops. Specifically, does anyone know if the SpeedStep techonology is hardware based, or if it's software based (does Windows/Linux control it)?

Also, how is Linux with Wireless connections? I use my laptop at my university quite a bit, and I'd like to be able to use the wireless network there. UBC uses a VPN network to encrypt the wireless connections, so it'd be nice to have support for that as well.

Thanks to all!
