Linux from Scratch

Has anyone tried LFS?
It's not really a distro I suppose, more like a step to step guide to creating your own Linux system... from scratch.

http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/

I succesfully built mine a while ago, but never had the time to actually use it. It has sure taught me a lot about linux

Also, it's supposed to be faster than the RPM based distros since everything is compiled from source.
