iMac Looks Dead
Apple will discontinue production of the 17" iMac in June; they stopped production of the 15" in October.

I don't want to be the one to start a which one is liked by more people debate, but I think it is because all the people that have a mac, and could afford to buy into the "trendy"(for lack of a better term) have already bought one. Don't get me wrong, I think that Macs have a level of quality and functionality unmatched by PC's, but for the money you could have spent on the entry level mac, you can buy a pretty mean PC.

There may be more bad news for Apple users if this report is true. I got this from NeoWin.
"Apple Computer next week will announce a plan to charge for upgrades to some of the company’s highly acclaimed "digital hub" software, a move that could anger customers accustomed to receiving free updates. According to sources familiar with the plans, Apple is expected to announce at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco Tuesday that consumers will have to pay for new versions of iDVD, iPhoto and iMovie, which will be sold together as a bundle. Previously, Apple had offered upgrades to its digital media, or "i" applications, for free."

1) Wired News says that the Taiwanese news report about Apple discontinuing the 17" iMac isn't true, that Apple is just moving production out of Taiwan. Nobody's been able to get a statement from Apple about the report.
2) Apple will have its own browser called Safari:

Here's what it looks like:

stuff like iDVD going for $50 is still an iRipoff. good software or not, it was the bonus stuff that made the extra money worthwhile. I will buy into the switch bandwagon, as soon as i win the lotto.

If your tired of getting ripped off by either Microsoft or Apple, how about getting ripped off by both of them at the same time.
Microsoft is introducing MSN for Mac. Microsoft is preparing the release of its Web browsing and Internet service software for Mac computers running Mac OS X 10.1 and above. The software will cost the same as MSN 8 for Windows PCs: $9.95 per month for users who have their own Internet service providers, $21.95 a month for MSN Internet dial-up subscribers, and as low as $39.95 a month for MSN Internet broadband customers.

In my opinion, and from what I've seen on tv and read on the internet, Microsoft has put up money and services to keep Apple in the green. But it is simple legality. If M$ makes sure there are other big competitors in the OS business, it is harder to call them a monopoly. Now there is the whole "switch" campaign, which kinda' throws that theory for a loop. If i make a stake in someone, and they basically call me an incompetent loser with no business doing what I do, I would make sure to take them down. Plain and simple. maybe that's the direction they are headed with the MSN service, and the office suite for macs before that.
