Question MS Small Business Server Internet connection

Hi everyone,

Very annoying internet problem:

Neither the server (MS Small Business 2003) nor the network clients (XP Pro) have any Internet access, but the router does. It's running a succesful diagnostic including a ping to an external IP.

Our Setup

Windows Server 2003 with two network cards - one for Internet; one for local area network.

One card connected to a Zoom X4 (Series 1011) router which is connected to the phone line (ADSL).

Other card connected to a Netgear 5 port hub (EN2005).

Hub is connected to a Belkin 54g (F5D7130) wireless access point which serves two desktop computers wirelessly.

The desktops can access the server but not the Internet. The server cannot access the Internet either. I've run the Internet and email wizard in Server Management without any errors, restarted the server and network equipment and still no joy.

TCP/IP Configuration

ROUTER (INTERNET CONNECTION)
IP: 10.0.0.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 10.0.0.2

HUB (LOCAL AREA NETWORK)
IP: 192.168.8.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: (blank)

WIRELESS ACCESS POINT
IP: 192.168.2.254
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.2.1

Any thoughts greatly appreciated - I'm pulling my hair out here!

Thanks!
Aaron

Your router should have a WAN address and a LAN address. The WAN address is the IP address that has internet access. The LAN address for the router should be on the same segment as your server. What is your server's IP, net mask, & gateway address?

Why are the workstations going through the server for internet access? Is your server acting as a firewall?

If not you can actually connect the Belkin WAP to your router and then connect the server and workstations to the router.

It's working now thankfully after two full days of fiddling. Not sure exactly what was wrong though!

Thanks for your message anyway.

Yes, the server acts as a firewall for the clients.
