You guys shouldn't be giving this type of information out . In some cases this information could be used in a VERY wrong way .

It's freely available info matey. You can find it everywhere. It has real applications. Yes, it can be abused, but that's how things are. Just like anything else.
You can freely buy soft to grab all the licences from a machine. Log user input, plant software to take over a machine etc.
Such is the stupid position these days, finding the Admin login is a drop in the ocean by comparison.

By informing somebody how to format a hard drive, I may be helping them to commit an illegal act if that drive contains evidence, but how do I know?
Should I therefore refrain from helping people find out how to do HD related ops just in case they will use the info for bad uses?
In my view, the question of Admin login retrieval is of a nature that allows me to answer it. Based on the fact I once needed to know myself for a friends PC.

No you shouldn't . Its very appreciated when you do but there should be a point of degree .
BTW I'm not pointing the finger a just you . Anybody that gives this type of information out . |

It's so routine to "recover" passwords these days, even respected establishments and people tell all.

Unless people tell you the "truth" as to why they're wanting to get a password, recover a machine, download a program etc, then we're just the middle man/woman just passing on helpful information. But we all should know the legal and illegal side of the law. So passing on information that will help to cure a fault, then so be it, but if it's illegal, or if it sounds dodgy, then we don't help, simple?

Microsoft will provide info, as long as it's basic, and it won't affect anybody personally due to the DPA

This has been discussed on so many security forums.
It's protocol to not give advice/help, etcetera to these type of issues in general, IMO.
