Ubuntu update + Long Term Support.

I have used several versions of Ubuntu, last was 6.06LTS - I understand there is a newer LTS, so would like to update, but I wonder exactly "what is" LTS worth?
The intermediate versions are presumably "OK" - so I'm just wondering if there is any point to LTS, since the next Ubuntu version is "presumsb;y" considered better......

Next, I wonder what happens top all the junk files? When I update my version....does it clean-up all the junk? Windows is well-known to fill-up the HDD with unnecessary files - does Ubuntu have a cleran-up facility, or is it dealt with when undating?
Yes I know Linux is not Win, but "computers" are the common bit..

Thanks in anticipation.

The latest linux tests say this in review of Fedora vs Ubuntu.
For users who are already familiar with Linux, Fedora 9 is an excellent choice. Robust security features and installation options make it somewhat more versatile than Ubuntu, which offers a more streamlined (and therefore more restricted) installation. For most users, though, including millions interested in trying Linux for the first time, Fedora lacks the polish and ready-to-run simplicity of its more popular rival.

Ubuntu 8.0.4 offers a level of functionality comparable to that of Mac OS and Windows, from delivery to installation to daily use. Unfortunately, the ties that bind all Linux distributions - primarily a lack of support for major Windows- and Mac-based business, design, and gaming applications - still hold Ubuntu back from mass popularity. For users with such moderate computing needs as Web browsing, e-mail, and basic document creation, however, Hardy is a compelling option.

I personally use Fedora and have found that it is both secure and great for every thing I do,from film editing and audio to gaming and communication.
Dual booted windows xp pro with fedora core 9 and the latest distro is sweet,Iam used to linux and find no problems with installation or using any of its features,if you are used to linux then I would suggest upgrading to fedora Core 9.
