Knoppix Linux Live CD

I just installed XP Pro,all is going well. All drivers reinstalled, all is well in my world .

Installed a Seagate ATA 160 GB as Master, Maxtor 30GB as Slave.

Now the problem.
I decided to see how my Knoppix Live CD preformed with all the hd space now available (also put 1 stick of pc2100 1GB memory ).Went into BIOS setup to make sure CD-ROM was set as 1st boot. When i rebooted,it went into Knoppix screen with a curser by Boot. I clicked enter, and it started dectecting my system components. When it got to USB & Firewire devices it just froze with a flashing curser. I tried again and got the same results.I did a hard shutdown, restarted and went into BIOS Setup. Everything is as it should be, removed the Live CD and rebooted. My memory count preformed, master & slave drives were shown, and that is where it all stopped. The computer at that point ceases to boot, just sits with the curser flashing and the HD light on.

Please help, I don't know what to do next

Thanks

Oh boy. You have to watch the live cds for firewire and some usb peripherals. Usally its not a problem but if they find something they cannot deal with, they freeze.

I found Knoppix to be inferior with its ability to handle hardware.

Make sure your hard drives are still being detected in bios. You may want to change the boot order to boot your hard drive first just for a test.

If you still can not boot xp, set your bios to boot from cdrom first again and boot the xp cd. See if the xp cd can boot you into the operating system.

Get back to us.

Thumbs up Knoppix Linux Live CD

Thank you very much for your immediate response.

I tried your suggestions to no avail .

So having just bought the new hd, I called Fry's Electronics and explained how the hd had just locked up. Was told to return it and they would make an even exchange . So I unhooked all of the cables and was about to take off the side panel to remove the drive, and thought I'd try once with only the monitor hooked up . Rebooted and here I am.

I'm wondering if the 200gb firewire hd drive I have hookedup could be the culprit.

Once again, Thank you.
