booting linux on to a rock

I have a cave man time laptop that has w95 so i decieded to put ubuntu to get the rock to do something. But it can only boot from a floppy. I tried Smart boot manger but it did not work.

Did you install grub to the mbr during the install?

You can boot with the ubuntu cd and type "rescue" at the boot prompt. There you should be able to reinstall grub with this command >

grub-install /dev/hda
