Error on startx

After installing RedHat 8, and having the Graphical boot option set, it boots into text mode. So I log in, type startx, and it returns with an error message that it found the display, though it can't configure it. I'm using an ATI Radeon 8500...supposedly compatible with RedHat.

How can I resolve this?

You must have missed or given some wrong info on your display when you installed. Log in as root and type> xf86config< and that should take you through the setup again. Make sure you have all the specs on your monitor and video card handy. Apparently RH uses > redhat-config-xfree86 < as the command.
