my thoughts are to upgrade to fc9,but that's me,what network manager are you using there are several different ones and when was the last update performed, when did you last have the computer online?
Go at it as Root user and when logged in as root go to network manager and set up connection properties, once rebooted if the ethernet is still not connecting then maybe an issue with your card or ISP
