How to start using Wifi on Linux?

Hi,
I'm very new in Linux OS, but I'm really interesting in using it in my daily work. But to make it happen I need wifi connection with my PC.
I'm using IBM R40 laptop with built in wifi card and Aurox Linux (which is based on Fedora) with KDE 3x.

Can someone explain me step-by-step how to enable wifi connection on Linux?

Many thanks on advance!
M.
