Question Linux and gaming?

Hi:

Is it possible to play video games with the Linux OS? I am no fan of Microsoft, but am an avid gamer. I would like to know if it is possible to play today's games on Linux.

Thanks

There are numerous smaller games that come with linux. But an avid gamer is probably looking for the top of the line games. Many of the top of the line games have linux versions available, however not enough to satisfy a hard core gamer by far. The last option is a program called wine, and its propriatary big brother winex. Wine lets you play many of the older windows games, and use many more windows applications in Linux. But winex is the best route. People have been able to get pretty much all of the top games to run in winex. WineX is not free though, but its not overly expensive either. I don't own WineX myself, and can't really go into details about it.

WineX is pretty nice. I have used it myself and it does live up to it's name. It even supports DiirectX games

Also note that UT and UT 2003 already run on linux natively - an undocumented feature

There are a growing number of games comming out this next year that will be going full-linux supportive. And there is already a few really nice and (addictive) games for Linux.

Cheers

winex

I have winex and must say that this is not solution. Full winex supported games run on Linux approx. 50% worse, than on native Windows, & as the number grows of Linux version games we hope that high quality products will arrive on Unix soon.
