apple mac grey screen help

apple mac grey screen help

hi there hope you can help me.i have got hold of a mac book which when turned on will only show a grey screen with the apple logo on and a little wheel going round and round i take it this means it is loading..and that is all it does.apparently while it was being updated the internet link when down and now it only shows the gray screen.i have tried to do a boot to safe mode but have been do i get passed the grey screen..i hope you can have never let me down before.i am ok with windows but i have no idea about apple mac..cheers again nicko hi again i have read a few fixes on this problem but they all involve using the software disc which i do not there anyway i can do this without the disc cheers again nicko
