iMac spinning wheel of death
I have a problem with an iMac A1224
I keep getting the spinning wheel and the whole unit becomes unresponsive within minutes of booting up although the mouse still moves, nothing will open or close, i have to power it off with the pwr button. I have wiped the unit clean, erased the whole drive and re-installed leopard OS several times. At first it would not complete the installation past "creating account" so i took it apart (after watching videos on how to do it) and took out the fans and used a can of air to blow out any dust that might be clogging the system and the cooling fins. This seemed to help with the completing of the installation but then after a minute or 2 i get the spinning wheel again. I can start to play a movie and it will play all the way through but if i try to open something else it just freezes. I have tried different RAM sticks and even replaced the HDD and re-installed to OS to no avail. I don't know what to do next and have the machine pulled apart ATM.
I have tried using the disk utility to repair the disk but it always replies with the disk is OK, i have also tried repairing permissions and i get green lights on that too.
The installation will complete and create an account but as soon as i click something it hangs for a few seconds and then i just get the spinning wheel.
Any help would be appreciated as i am at the end of my knowledge of this problem.
