windows/linus boot

I might keep linux on my machine to play with if I could get a dual boot where windows is the default. I installed SuSE and it goes linux first. Suggestions anyone? Also how does one uninstall linux? reformat...

linux is nice to have for a backup operating system if nothing else. I'm not familiar with Suse. I'm hoping you can find the linux boot loader in the Suse control panel. It will be either lilo or grub, settings. All you need to do is make 'windows' default for booting.
If there is no gui(graphical user interface) for the boot loader you will need to open a console and make the change via the command line. And for that you will need to research or find more help.

Went into Yast/system/boot loader and ran the utility after a check of the boot loader it hangs while reading partitioning??

Any ideas folks?

open the file /etc/grub.conf

there is a section that says default "xxxx"

You will also see below that a couple sections. One for Linux, and one for Windows. Each one has a "label" Just change the setting in the default "xxxx" section to the label of the default OS you wish to boot.

After you are done, type

grub

in a console as root to re-istall the updated grub loader.

Remember that to edit and save changes to this file, you will need to su or login as root.

A word of advice, go into your bios and do make sure "LBA" is ENABLED for your HD as that might be causing YaST to hang.

PS - to uninstall Linux,..

1) Delete the partition - or in most cases, there will be 2 or three partitions. Since Fdisk often has issues reading and deleting Linux partitions, you might want to use the partitioning tools on your Linux install disk.

2) Use any normal DOS boot disk and type

fdisk /mbr

at the DOS prompt. This will restore the Master Boot Record and load the NT loader be default as usual
