Hardware problems with Linux?

Hey guys. Im building a new computer and want to install Redhat Linux on it. Should I be concerned with any type of hardware problems that might interfere with Linux like certain brands of hardware?

I had Mandrake 9.0 installed for awhile, Linux is Linux basically and I didn't have any hardware problems at all, and most of my components aren't new or anything. So you shouldn't really have a problem. I think on the Linux homepage they have supported hardware lists. I might be wrong but so long as your hardware is I roughly 4 years or newer you should be fine.

Linux does not like winmodems.

with a little google searching, almost everything has a linux patch/driver now. but as posted above winmodems are a pain, i usually buy zoom modems and 3com products with dual support.

If your going with Linux as a "desktop" system, you might want to shy away from Red Hat as the "Red Hat linux" line is officially discontinued now. Red Hat has decided to leave the desktop market and delegate the desktop version to a new branch - the "Fedora" Project.

If you are looking for a well rounded easy-to-use Linux distro, go Mandrake or SuSE. They also now have support for a growing number of Winmodems .. err.. "Linmodems" and are a lot easier than RH cat be for first time users especially.
