microsoft server 2003 standard

Ok question time
for anyone who has expierience with this OS, what is it like and what are the capabilities. Also, what is the >NET server? is that a different OS or what. if it is what so special about it. Do you think ok to turn a personal in home pc into a server (assuming that the pc can handle it)? just a few questions thanks!

sniperfav, was looking at your system specs that you were mad at the 100mhz fsb, if you have the pentium4, not the pentium 4 celeron, does your board have a dram jumper to set the fsb to 133(266)? and as for server 2k3 unless you are going to be running a major network ,office or internet server, use what you have as a sever.

SECURITY

The problem with serving from a home PC is that clients will suck up your bandwith if they are all doing stuff like getting or putting files, should they have those permissions,
Then there is SECURITY. If you're a server you have to provide an entry point, the logon, A hacker can crack this if you're not up on security.
If what you want to do is provide a site for a group consider getting a cheap domain name and web provider who's machines are more apt to serve do to their size, and are administered 24/7.

As for SERVER 2003 and .NET,,, you can get any info you need from knowledge base at Microsoft. I'm not sure but I think .NET is a new feature and not a new OS app.

Hope this helps a bit...
