Windows Explorer Quits

For no apparent reason, when you open Windows Explorer (especially when you open the My Videos directory), it closes, you lose your desktop and the only way to get it back is reset, log off and on again, or "control-alt-delete" and restart it as a new task?

Or CPU usage shoots up to 100%?

But it doesn't seem to happen so much when you open My Computer and navigate to My Documents, although it does it sooo slowly?

Well, if that sounds like you then you know what I mean.

Try this.

Open My Computer, click Tools menu > Folder Options > View tab > click Restore Defaults and Reset All Folders buttons > click ok.

There are only two men I trust with my computer. One's me. The other isn't you.

Explorer windows can be started as a separate process, in a separate part of memory (probably as a new thread), through Control Panel, Folder Options, View. Now, Micro$oft says:
Quote:
Note
  • When you open each folder window in a separate part of memory, the stability of Windows can be increased. However, this process uses more memory, and may cause your computer to run more slowly.
& also people complain how this is buggy (more info can be found from the searches below, here, here and here)
but, nevermind all that! I would find it most useful, because in this situation it can be a huge security benefit

To edit this setting from the Windows XP registry, as on PC Tools:

Quote:
User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
Value Name: SeparateProcess
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

P.S.
