Question Problems with NIS 2003..

I just got Norton Internet Security 2003.. and I have a problem with it..

The firewall won't let me use FTP on port 21..

I've changed the general settings to allow the port 21 for file transfer with any computer..

I even opened the trojan settings to open the same port..

But when I use the FTP (CuteFTP) the firewall sees it as a "high risk" attack and it won't let me through...

Anyone with NIS2003 who've solved this problem?

Wink

Open NIS 2003. Select 'Norton Internet Security'>Double-click 'Personal Firewall'>'Program Control'>'Program Scan' (in 'Manual Program Control'). When the scan has completed, select the revealed 'CuteFTP' line>select 'Automatic'>'OK'>exit NIS 2003. I think that should do it (I know you're familiar with some of these commands, but you may not have explored all the available options). The default put in by NIS 2003 for Cute FTP may be 'Custom' and that may be OK too (you can look at these custom settings of course, which will show Port 21 enabled for this program - enabling everything, including Trojans, on this port sounds daft anyway).

Well, the problem is, that in a program scan, Cute FTP Pro can't be found, and if I add the program instead, I can't choose "Automatic", I can only choose "Block" or "Permit" and even though I chose "Permit All" it still won't let the ftp program through...

Does Cute FTP work with the firewall turned off?
Are you in Windows XP? (disable its firewall if not already).
The Auto part of NIS2003 puts up an alert the first time a program tries to access the internet - did this happen with CuteFTP, with an option to 'permit' (and 'always allow this')?
Doesn't your manual entry for CuteFTP give you the 'custom' option (to allow all FTP communications to be set)?

These are just ideas now. Good luck.

Yes, the FTP works when I turn off the firewall (that's the way I have to do it).

And yes, when I use the FTP for the first time NIS alerts me with the question "This program is trying to access the net, what do you want?" and the options "Block" and "Permit" and then I can choose to "Always allow this program to do this" wich I of course have done. I've set the spefication on everything from "FTP" to "General" but I doesn't matter.. It still sees the FTP action as a "High Risk" when I'm about to use it...

I'm open for suggestions, because I don't want to have to turn the firewall off everytime I'm about to use the FTP.
