Recieved a message through my tv????

I had a really freaky experience last and need help trying to figure out what in the world could have caused it. . . . . .

I had an appointment for the Cox Cable guy to come by because the Entertainment on Demand feature wasn't working right. When I got home to meet him, he had the green box in the front yard open doing something with the wires. Then he came inside and checked out the cable box, went out by the garage and looked at those wires. He changed out some connector that he said was the problem. It fixed what was wrong. The guy left and I put my dog up and got ready to go back to work. When I walked outside to leave, he was back in the green box out front. I didn't pay him any attention. I figured he knew what he was doing and I could just go. Later that night, I put in one of my DVDs that I have watched a million times before, crawled into the recliner and got comfortable. About 15-20 minutes into the movie, the word "Hi." pops up at the bottom of the screen in white text kind of like a subtitle would. I thought that was weird, but assumed it had something to do with HI FI maybe like my VCR flashes sometimes. But then it started changing text format and went from white to transparent with just a black outline, then from transparent to bright red with the black outline. Just as I was starting to become concerned, the word disappeared completely. I didn't think anything else about it and kept watching the movie. About halfway the movie, an entire sentence pops up, "So you're on your own tonight". I came up out the recliner and grabbed the remote. I tried to stay calm and figure out what in the world was going on, because for the first time in about a year, I WAS at home alone. I stopped the DVD and went to the menu. The sentence disappeared. I checked the scene selection menu praying that one of the scenes had that name and somehow it had just by some freak of nature appeared on the screen. It did not match any of the scene titles. I went back to where I was in the movie and it wasn't any of the actor's lines or the background song that was playing. I could not link that sentence to anything in the movie. I was completely freaked out. I tried to remember if I had said anything to the cable guy about being alone. I talked to my IT guy at work and he said it sounded like maybe I had accidentally picked up someone's instant messaging through the cable line, or worse case scenario, the cable guy hooked up something to allow him to type messages on my tv through the cable line. I don't know. When I called Cox Cable and explained to one of their technicians what had happened (I didn't insinuate any blame or distrust of their tech), they immediately denied that it had anything to do with the cable and that I should call the DVD manufacturer to see if it was a flaw in the DVD player. Even at my request, they would not send out another technician to double check what the guy had done in the green box outside my house. I was so mad when I got off the phone with Cox that I actually dialed them back and was going to tell them to turn off the cable immediately and come collect their box, but did not and decided to investigate this situation a little more. Anyone ever heard of anything like happening before or have any idea what might have caused this to happen???????

Wow... that is really freaky.

Your IT guy may be right but on the other hand computer IT guys don't know much about what Cable company are capable of ,, I would say, get video Camera out and ready and talk to a lawyer too,,, that is invasion of your privacy ? it may be even worst, who knows what kind of freaks are out there... Record and document what ever you see and hear off your TV if you think it is not a usual activity.

Good Luck and keep us posted on this, I personally really want to know about this.

cheers

Hi trina5901

Also, report it to your local Police Station in order to make it official. They may, or may not be able to do something about it, however, you have used the correct protocol and reported it for the record. Also, obtain what we in the UK call a Crime Reference Number.

Please keep us informed, as this kind of sick behavior goes way beyond an invasion of privacy. IMHO, it's tantamount to mental and emotional abuse...............

This sounds like something from a movie ... with Jim carey.
It freaked me out just reading it
Has anything happened since? Is it possible for you to check the green box? It may be obvious something looks wrong.
Maybe ring up your provider again and make up some problem, just so someone can come and look then mention it to them?

I have not had any new messages on my tv. I work with a bunch of electrical engineers and they have pretty much convinced me that the poor cable guy just wouldn't have had the time or resources to do what would have been necessary to cause this appearance of words on my tv. However, they do not have any suggestions as to what it could have been either. My best guess is that with everything that is controlled through the cable lines these days, my system must have, by some freak happening, intercepted someone's cable internet instant messaging or email. Other than that, I don't have a clue.
Thanks for all the responses.

Trina

So long as everything is back to normal, that's all that counts Trina.

You take care now.

Best wishes
