Angry Microfsoft Money 2002/SP2 Problem

What's up guys? I recently installed Windows Service Pack 2 for my O/S (Windows XP Professional). Everything seemed to be going well until I tried to open My Documents. It said it needed to install Microsoft Money 2002 and it needed the CD. I am in college and that CD is at home... so I figured I didn't need it since I did most of my banking on the bank's website anyways.

So I went and uninstalled the program hoping it would stop asking for the CD. I uninstalled it because everytime I ran any Microsoft Program, it would ask for the Money CD. When I uninstalled the program, that's when I been getting a strange message whenever I try to open a Microsoft Program.

For example, I am taking VB Studio.Net... everytime I try to open the program, it trys to install Money. Then I get this message:

Error 1606.Could not access network location *some strange symbols*

When I press cancel, it leaves... but it happens on every Microsoft program I use. When I finally got the Microsoft Money 2002 CD, I tried to reinstall it hoping the problem would stop... but it didn't. When I put the CD in, I get the same message... then it ask me to run SYSPACK.MSI on the Money CD... then it says it has a error and it won't install.

I tried a system restore, won't work... so I was hoping someone could help me here (since Microsoft.com's Customer Service has changed... and is not good imo).

Give this a try

Click Start, right-click My Documents, and then click Properties.
Click the Target tab.

If the target is not
C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\My Documents
Click Restore Default, and then click OK.

I think I found the answer:

or

I had the exact same problem. Per this posting, I downloaded the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

Using this utility, I removed the entry for Microsoft Money 2002 service pack entry

That seems to have done it.

Thank you very much. I also downloaded the Installer CleanUp Utility and it seems to have worked. Great job!
