Unhappy Need help with lost data!!!

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I wanted to restore a Norton Ghost backup image.

I have my harddisk in two partitions ( C: & G: )

XP resides on the C:, of course, and I have always restored the ghost image to C: with Norton Ghost boot disk.

Unfortunately, I lost the disk, so I tried to restore it from Norton Ghost in Windows. There I could only choose the entire disk, not the C partition itself.

Stupid me went on as normal, and Norton Ghost removed both C AND G, then created a new C, and installed the ghost image there.

So all the files on what once was G is now LOST !!!

A lot of valuable data down the drain, or....???

Is there some kind of recovery tool that can allow me to restore the missing data...!?!?

ANY help on the subject would be VERY appriciated...!

Thanx in advance!

Depending on the importance of the files you could try a utility like this, No guarantees of course.
http://www.active-undelete.com/

Of course this would be for USer files not to recover programs

I'm sorry to hear of the loss. Did Norton create a new C Drive that uses up all the space that C & G had? If so, try limiting the use of the computer until you do find a recovery tool or two to make sure that Windows doesn't overwrite the existing data (i.e. the area of the disk that G drive was on).

If you do get things up and running again, I'd recommend switching to Acronis TrueImage instead of Norton. It can do all the things that Norton can, but if you loose the boot-time recovery disk, you can simply burn another one. Also, it stores the backup files on a partition unaccessible to Windows, preventing viruses or uninformed users from tampering with the images.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

I suggest you use GetDataBack. You can fint it at:

http://www.runtime.org/gdb.htm

I used it a couple of times after having some of my files deleted by an uninstall program that "uninstalled" more than it was suposed to . I got all my data back with no sweat.

Good Luck & Hope you get your data back

You may want to read the user feedback on acronis before switching (as I almost did). It tends to create corrupt images.
