Question error with .pst, inbox repair tool??

I've been using outlook for a while no problems, then yesterday I start up my puta, not connected to the internet yet then click on outlook and it starts up saying that their is something wrong with the current .pst file and that I should do this or that(I'm at work so can't remember exactly what it said) ... and to use the inbox repair tool, but where is this inbox repair tool???

Thankfully i've just this week backed up my PC so I just copied the .pst file from the backup and am using this for now, i'm only missing a few days worth of emails so it's nothing major, but i'm just interested it how to fix it.

Also, now I have to sets of .pst files open in outlook and it won't let me close one of them saying something like cannot close inbox, contacts etc, why??

Any help is appreciated!!

You didn't say what version. This link is for Outlook 2000 but in the first paragraph they give links to the newer versions

If you ever need to use a backup PST file to restore your mail and contacts, always use the 'Import and Export' option in the 'File' menu to import the PST file. Don't simply copy or Outlook will throw errors at you.
