Fatal error while trying to install Norton Anti-virus

Hey, I re-installed WindowsXP for someone today and I did not format. I just chose "new installation" so it overwrote everything for the most part. However, the "program files" folders were still all there, that may be where my problem is coming from. Anyway, this person has Norton Anti-virus 2002 and while I'm installing it gets to the point of "registering LU" and I get this first error with an OK button:

Live Update Error
There was a problem trying to register with Live Update. Live Update will not be available for this product.

Then I hit OK and it continues for about 5 seconds and then I get this second error:

Fatal Error
Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

After that, I hit ok and it aborts installation. Looking around in the old norton folder I cannot find any way to uninstall and re-install, should I just delete the norton and symantec folders entirely and try installing?

Personally, I would ask the client to backup all important data and perform a clean install. The scenario is most probably due to the fact that there are still elements of NAV 2002 left behind, especially in the registry.

Clean Install Windows XP

Error: "There was an error trying to register with LiveUpdate . . ." or "Run Time error! . . ." when installing Norton AntiVirus

Error: "Fatal Error: Installation ended prematurely because of an error" while installing Norton AntiVirus™ 2003

Even though this pertains to 2003, it's still worth looking at.

Good luck..................

Like Jazz said: "there are still elements of NAV 2002 left behind, especially in the registry." This tool should remove those entries so you can re-install Norton. Worked for me.
