Help For Translation Please

High,

I want to translate a software in French language. Usually I use ResHack. When an EXE file is compressed I need to use UPX or AspackDie (depends from the compressor used).
Now it seemed that the EXE file is protected by something like CHECKSUM (?) So when I change anything in the menu that takes a bit more place in French than in English, the program (EXE) doesn't run anymore and I get errors.
How can I do to make a working translated EXE file please ?
I don't know anything in C++, Delphi or anything but I have this softwares (you never know ...).
