I, lordSauron, being the creator of this poll, put my two cents into it as a token of good will - do not be afraid, disagreeing with me only makes me puzzled: "Why do they disagree... They know I'm always right!" (Just Kidding)

I like Firefox. It's nice in that it can take the info from any browser and transfer it, so all your bookmarks are carried over, and any other preferences. It's also easier to use, and it has the little search toolbar built in next to the URL, which is nice. It also keeps with tabbed browsing, which is really nice (I used that a lot in Netscape/Mozilla). It was sort of weird, having it separate from my e-mail though. I got Thunderbird to fix that (I bury my old browsers, though I never - God forbid - unistall them).

THOSE WHO DON'T WANT TO READ A LOT READ THIS:

I like Firefox better.

Do you have the latest version of firefox? It's very cool, but the only problem I have with it is the download manager. Too slow. There's one browser you forgot to include in the survey, however: Avant. I'm using it now, and it's pretty cool. Firefox also always seems to write spyware to a person's pc.

Firefox:

Hince the sig, before I go babbling on I first would like to say since I have been here, I have converted 38 people, using that direct link not couting the ones before I got an affilate ID. So let the babbling begin!

I have always been using Firefox since I have heard about it. I personally support Firefox with every muscle in my body. I mean there are of course flaws.
I hate it because you always got to install certain plugins.
I hate it because certain websites use IE encoding and not the "traditionally" HTML That Firefox uses and every other browser alive except for IE.

Now for the fun part the great stuff. I love surfing the internet not worried about big gaping holes that when I click a link that some code isn't going to be written to my computer without my knowing and therefore making my life a living hell trying to remove the virus and the code. Internet Explorer is always having this problem. Here is an extract from the latest hugest virus...W32/MyDoom.AK@MM

"NOTE: The email includes a URL that exploits the Microsoft Internet Explorer Malformed IFRAME Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability."

The whole thing of the virus is an exploit. So far Firefox doesn't have any major ones that goes undercovered or unrepaired.

Popups. Now this site is filled with them for The Tool to pay his bills now that is okay because I never see them. Why? Because I am on Firefox.

Block Images. Now most website's ads come from one website and just rotate on and on. Like this website. So I just block the image from that site and never have to see that ad again or any "offensive" material that I don't like or want anyone else seeing.

Extenstions. The ability to add anything you desire for Firefox. Now this is one of my all time favorite things. I personally love SwitchProxy and a spellchecker which I forget the name of. But those are my favorite two extenstions for Firefox, but there are literally millions out there.

Themes. Don't like the look? Get a new theme, now me personally this isn't very big to me but I can imagine it is to severeal people.

The downloads. I personally love it, I don't understand why people hate it. The only thing I personally don't like about it is that you cannot open .exe files you must save them first. There are serveal file extenstions like that, but you get over it. I like you can automatically save it in the same spot over and over without having to reselect it.

Now I am done now. My fingers hurt. Go firefox!

Mozilla, Firefox, IE

Ok, couple of questions. I've used IE nearly all my computer life and have been fairly content with it, but I'm trying to be open minded about other options.

First of all, I'm confused as to the difference between Mozilla and Firefox. They are mentioned as separate browsers, but when I d/l and installed Firefox, it calls itself "Mozilla Firefox".

Whatever. Ok, I'm trying Mozilla/Firefox/whatever it is as I type. First thing I noticed is it did not import my favorites accurately. There are actually two versions. One looks like a very old version of my favorites from several months ago, e.g. it didn't import the bookmark for this forum, also I have several Web based e-mail accounts that I set up in a folder by themselves, and it just dumped them all in the main bookmark area, no folder by themselves.

The other appears to have all my current favorites, but it put them all in a sub-folder called "From IE".

I corrected all that by manually re-arranging them to resemble what I wanted. so it's a non-issue now.

Next problem I see is I'm using AdSubtract to control pop-ups and banner ads. On this forum using Firefox, the banner ad appears, but not with IE. This is an issue I would have. If AdSubract won't work right with Firefox, I'll stick to IE.

Thumbs up

I had been using IE for the most of my past computing life and 2 weeks ago I have switched to Firefox. (By the way I had "very much" liked Konqueror on linux, it made life a lot easier)

From now on I don't think that i'll ever be using IE unless they make some radical change on that. Firefox is easier to use for me, and can do whatever IE can do and more, the tabbed browsing helps clumsy browsers like me quite a lot, the plug-in/extension installation is simple and you can choose from a variety of extensions, and still can customize the looks by installing new themes again easily.

Even though i haven't had any problems with outlook plus i like it a lot, i'm thinking about switching to Thunderbird whenever version 1.0 launches. (Won't do it probably, but at least it deserves some attention

Opera. I'm using the newer beta versions and they are awesome. M2 mail client works great. Wand for form filling and auto logins works flawlessly. Tabbed browsing at its best. It's the fastest browser I have with my internet connection. Opera seems to be a better browser for slower connections so dialup users may be interested more so.
I have Firefox and Mozilla. I cannot get tabbed browsing like I have in Opera and Slimbrowser, so I rarely use them. The email client in Mozilla is good.

Ok... this one has popped on WAY to many forums that I've visited. I even got hassled to the point where I left one of them because I didn't "abide" by the firefox way.

I use Maxthon (formerly known as MyIE2). In my searches for a better browser than IE (sorry everyone, it truly sucks), I came across Firefox, Avant and Opera. I tried them all out and finally choose Avant. IMO, Firefox sucked up way too much memory and took way too much effort to get the functionality that I wanted, not to mention that you have to add plugins to simply view webpages... come on... get real. Opera was nice, but the banner was quite annoying and I'm not willing to shell out money for a browser when I can get one that's free. It too used quite a bit of memory. Avant was the happy medium that I was looking for.

Then, after a little while of using it, Avant started to get on my nerves because it kept on crashing on me... really annoying when I've got 8 tabs open. After a little more digging, I stumbled upon Maxthon and decided to give it a try.

Needless to say, I was hooked. Right now, I'm sitting here typing this and I've got 10 tabs open, and it's using a mere 14K of memory. It's also got a really intuitive interface when it comes to accessing options (something that just cheezed me to no end about FF, 5 different options menus for all the different plugins). Not too mention that it's the most advanced browser when it comes to closing all the small vulnerabilities with IE (such as the IFRAME vulnerability, was patched within a day). Another big plus for me is the sidebar. It's a really quick way for me to access my favorites and other plugins that I might want.

(Just a side-note on Firefox and security, there are spyware attacks being made on FF now. Yes, they are less common than those on IE, but they do exist and are increasing in number. Just like everyone says that Mac's don't need anti-virus, that too is becoming a myth.)

Another nice feature that is available on Maxthon is the "groups" feature. You can save several favorites into a group and when you select that group, it will open new tabs and load all those pages that are listed in that group. For example, I have a group that lists all the forums that I visit, and so when I load up Maxthon in the morning, instead of having to open 5 tabs and then selecting 5 favorites (one for each tab), I just open the one group.

Added bonuses of Maxthon are

mouse gestures
super-drag'n'drop (right-click drag a link and it will open in a new tab)
URL Alias (an absolute must for keyboard users)
pop-up blocker (works really well, easy to configure)
system tray icon (you can minimize or close to sys tray)

Anyone who's looking for a better browser but doesn't want to spend hours digging for plugins, have a look at Maxthon. For anyone hesitant about leaving IE, don't be, you won't notice a difference.

Just my two cents... (or two hundred... lol)

I, too, found Avant to have the same results on my machine. In fact, all versions I tried have been unstable. Maxthon is ok but I found Slimbrowser to be superior of the IE based browsers.
I have to agree on Firefox (whatever happened to Firebird?). Despite installing every tab extension, I still cannot get tabbed browsing like I have in Opera and Slim. I do like the calendar and weather extensions immensley in Firefox.
Another neat browser I have is Faststone 4in1 browser. It has a builtin ftp client and http server - very simple and basic.
And whats the big deal about Deepnet? I've tried both latest versions and they are very quirky.

Tried them all, so far I like Slimbrowser the best. How do you get Google Toolbar installed on Slim instead of Ask Jeeves? When I d/l Google TB, it installed it on IE.

The newest Slim beta has a bug with "Ask Jeeves" staying default despite picking 'google. I've never had a problem with earlier versions.

Congraulations Firefox Users!

I have seen this thread. But I never replied to it because I already have my input. I firmly believe in Firefox. A few days later, after I joined this forum, I created a SFX (Spread Firefox) affilate ID, just for the forum.

I wanted to track on how many people, me PERSONALLY I can get converted to Firefox, just using this forum. I cannot believe on how many people converted to Firefox. Firefox is such a great browser, which is why it has got my back.

Since I have created this ID. I have gotten 52 people to sign up from this forum. Now I must say this is alot, for just having it in my signature and giving the link out, whenever someone is having an Internet Explorer browser. But way to go! I just wanted to tell everyone, on how many people have switced to Firefox.

Good luck to all, and keep downloading!

**Which is why the URL always seemed to be unbelieve long. It never was a virus lol, just my Affilate ID, to track how many people I can get**

Hi there,

I do admit that Firefox is better than IE, but IMO, it takes too long to get it to work properly (i.e. show all pages properly).

Also, not everyone has the time/experience/patience to configure the plugins required to get full browsing capability.

Another little note... 52 people may have downloaded Firefox from your link (or looked at Firefox and it's specs), but not everyone has kept using it. I for one, just clicked on your link (which I presume would add another count to your name), but I didn't download Firefox.

Any alternative to IE is a good choice...

No that does not count. I only get "points" if you complety finish your Firefox download. As for the plugins--theyre simple just click options..Whats hard about that?

"it takes too long to get it to work properly"

Different people has different computers. My websites load faster, as does Firefox then Internet Explorer.

You sure you don't have any spyware/viruses?
