First off, Boot Magic has nothing to do with making partitions or installing operating systems. It's only job is booting multiple operating systems.
Is your Chinese cd a full copy of xp, an upgrade copy, or a recovery cd from Compac, Dell, or other?
Do you have your bios set to boot from cdrom first? Is the cd clean? Are you sure its good?

Thanks for your help.
Yes, I used Partition Magic (not Boot Magic) to set up a primary partition for the new OS. I used Boot Magic to boot to the new partition (make the new partition active) so as to install the Chinese version of Windows XP.
The Chinese CD is a full copy of XP from my friend as a gift.
The bios was set to boot from floppy first, then CD Rom. I think this should be okay. Am I correct?
I think the CD is clean and good. It can be started in windows (I mean in the Enlgish version of windows xp, when I insert the chinese CD into the CDRom, it will be started).
I have tried booting to the new partition and install the English version of Windows XP or Windows 98, the same situation happened as in the case of the chinese version of Windows XP.
