ipod nano is not showing up in itunes

Hello - my ipod nano is not showing up in itunes.
any suggestions?
This has been going for about two months - i beileve that i updated itunes and that is when the change occurred. The ipod does charge, but i can't see the ipod on the desktop or itunes so i can't update the music.
Please someone help!

My player was working good until I tried to deleting some music folders from it, I was not able to deleting it fully, the deleted folder shows 0 bytes and when opening it the folder shows all the music files name with 0 byte. Finally I tried to deleted it with Ashampoo software. But when I stared the player first it shows disk error and its not working anymore screen shows a time delay sign only and its not detecting on My Computer in pc. is there any hope to detect its disk drive in pc? and able to format and reload the player software? I hope someone can help me.
