Easy Cd creator 5 platinum
I recently bought and installed ECDC 5 and it won't burn music CD's. I called Roxio- a friggin' toll call!!!- they said I needed to completely uninstall using their info, then reinstall. NOPE!!! still don't work. It will burn a data CD, but when you press record on any music project ( tried different albums, including some I have burned before, to make sure it wasn't due to copyright protection), the program goes to the progress interface, and shuts down. Even the icon in the system tray disappears.
Just hoping one of you had same problem and found a fix. BTW, I do have the 5.3.2 update installed.

!!!.........and I thought I knew a little! I honestly can't think of how to find out. But, I havent changed any settings since the reinstall, if that might answer. Also, I can burn those files That ECDC 5 wouldn't in windows media player. So, I would think it is not the hardware, since WMP uses parts of ECDC----right???

Lets recap. You have downloaded the music. And when you try to record it on to a cd, ECDC shuts down right? Do you have a newer, highspeed burner? Have you tried turning down the write speed? I would go over all the settings again and double check the write speed. I do not burn that much music but I do burn a lot of iso images and if I screwup on one setting it dont work. I dont understand the interaction between ECDC and WMP.

ECDC 5 In XP
According to the M$ "Windows XP Inside/Out" you MUST disable the internal recording software if you use any third-party recording software. First you must uninstall any (ECDC 5,etc) recording software. Reboot. Then go into My Computer or Windows Explorer. Right click your CD-RW, select properties, advanced tab, and uncheck "Enable this device for recording". Reboot and install Roxio's ECDC 5 Plat and the update 5.3.2.34 and also the 5.3.2.34A for recorders (only needed if your CD-RW is very new type that XP doesn't know about).
Another thing that you want is to go to ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll and download their CD-RW aspi drivers which work with ALL recorders. Save this dll file. Open your "C" Winnt/Windows folder to "System32". Now right click the nero driver and drag to the system32 folder. It will ask if you want to replace the existing (very small) driver with the 148kb Nero version 2.01 driver-----click YES! A Note that a lot of people use the latest Adaptec ASPI drivers 4.72, which is fine but doesn't work with any USB CD-RW's.
Now you should be able to load and run any recording software in XP without any problems. I run 11 differnt recording softwares in XP for different applications and have NO problems. LOL

I have an old phillips cdd4801 cd/rw that tops out at 8x. It came out of my compaq. I did try turning the speed down all the way to 1x.
to elaborate on the ECDC/ WMP relationship, Microsoft integrated the burn engine from ECDC into WMP 9 series. that just, along with the fact that the program will burn data cd's successfully, led me to believe that my hardware is compatible with the basics of the software. I have been wrong before! I have installed both the 5.3.2 update and the drive support update.

Nero
You guys can try any recording software you want, but I think you'll end up using NERO only. I use CloneCD and WINCDR for different reasons, and Power CDR Express for P...station copy, but NERO is the best all-around software. I've used ECDC since 4.0 Deluxe and it's fine, but it always has had install problems. Buy Nero and learn to use it! Even the new DVDXCopy has integrated Nero into it's DVD burn software. What does that tell you?

Thanks Dick for the info. I was always of the understanding that Nero was inferior to ECDC. I've never tried it because I've had good luck with ECDC. Its good to hear other's experience with various software. If I can find a copy Nero, I will try it out.
