Age of Mythology Gold Edition

I used to be friends with one of the guys at Ensemble Studios and he gave me AoMG for Christmas (early) when it was released. I have just built my own comp and linstalled AoM and I can play for about 5 min and then the game shuts down. My compy meets the min. requirements

AMD Athlon XP 2400+
128 MB ATI Radeon 9200+
512 MB RAM
Direct X 9.0
the only thing I don't have right now is a sound card but it's not needed to play the game.

I do get an error message but it doesn't mention whats wrong...i open the More Info tab and it is a whole lot of coding and two files from my comp....dxdiag.exe and logfiles.txt (or exe i can't remember) I've called Mircosoft but it hasn't done any good the guy and I though it was the sound card(that i did have) but that was only the part of it. Anyone have any ideas on what it might be?
Direct X says everything is fine...
Any help would be much appreciated ^_^
