Can't see streaming video on Windows media player 10

Hello everyone my name is Pablo, i'm new in this forum and i hope you could help me with a problem that i have some time and i can't resolve.

I have Windows XP with windows media player 10, when i try to see any streaming video from the internet, i succes to hear the voices but i can't see the video.
First, i thought that i have a codecs problem, so i had installed the FFDSHOW codec pack and the Microsoft windows media player codecs but i still can't see the video, only hear it.

I know that the problem happens only with streaming video, i i download the video to my computer i can see him without any problems, but not all the media sources are avelible to download.

I had tryed to choose winamp as the default media player, bue when i try to see streaming video with him, the video got "stuck" and i can't see or hear nothing.

Another thing that i had tryed to do is to "roll back" wmp 10(windows media player) to wmp 9 and than install the codecs pack.. but again, i couldn't see any streaming video.

Could you help me please? i have'nt any idea what is the problem and how can i fix it.
It's possible to "throw out" wmp and install another program to see the streaming video? (like VLC or Winamp)
Do you know anyway to fix my WMP problem?

By the way, i'm sorry for my English, i'm trying to improve it :-)

Thanks a lot!
Best regards,
Pablo.

p.s: here my computer stuff: pentium 4 (3.0), windows XP with service pack 2, 512 memory.

In windows media player
1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Performance tab.
2. In the Video acceleration area, move the slider to turn down or turn off video acceleration.

you don't have to turn it off entirely try just turning it down a notch. Hope it helps

Hey Pablo,

Ive been having this problem as well for some time now, and ive looked everywhere and no1 seemed to anwser it correctly. Well I got tired of not being able to watch my videos on gamespot.com so i tryed to see if i could find the problem myself, and after a while i found how to fix it, sort of. Go to
Tools>Options>Performance, and under Video accelerator click Advanced, now just turn off " Use Video Mixing Renderer" and that should fix it. You'll be able to see the video now, but theres a catch, when u swith between normal mode and Full Screen mode and then back, the video wont work again. To fix this just close it and then open the streaming video again, and this should work fine. Just so you know i have a GF6800 gt and im still waiting for Nvidia to fix this problem. Anywayz, hope this helped fixing the problem.

CYA laterz,

Thumbs up Another Possible Solution To Missing Streaming Video on WMP10

Like many others, this problem seemed to materialize out of the blue for me, since I was not aware of any changes that I made to WMP10. One day I was seeing streaming video and the next day I was not. Having tried numerous unsuccessful 'fixes', I thought my solution was to reinstall the latest version of WMP but that did not fix the problem either. Based on numerous replies, and solutions, reported on user forums, it appears that the problem may be multi-faceted. My solution was to open the Performance tab under Tools\Options then click on the Advanced button. Within the Video Acceleration settings, I simply checked the 'use high quality mode' box. I found the 'use overlay' box checked when I first open the advanced settings window but have no idea as to why or how it got checked. All of the other boxes are checked for the Video Accelation settings. It was a trial and error process for me based on all of the postings I have read in various forums regarding this problem. Much of the quick solutions to these types of problems are hampered by the myriad systems and software configurations in use. As usual, Microsoft support is very limited so the user forums are of great help. Thanks to all who posted on this problem which helped greatly in solving my problem. Good luck on finding a solution Pablo. By the way, I am running Windows XP Pro and Firefox 1.5.0.1 as my browser on a P3 machine. My WMP10 version is 10.00.00.3802, downloaded this morning.

This problem has been driving me crazy with MLBTV (and Gamespot), when I choose a game to watch my mouse pointer freezes and then I get sound but no pictures from the game. When I close the video screen the pointer freezes a second time for a few seconds.

The strange thing is (that nobody else seems to have mentioned) is that I only get this problem when my PC has been on for a while. If I have just switched it on (or restarted it) then it works fine.

Does anyone else have the problem occasionally or is it all the time? I have yet to try any of the fixes mentioned above and just wondered if my problem is the same as those above.

I did install a new card (NVIDIA 5500) so that I could use two monitors, dont know if that could be part of the problem.

Thanks.

I realize this is very old but in case anyone does an internet search.. After trying all the "solutions" posted on various sites what eventually fixed it for me was..

Restoring defaults, restoring wmp as the default program for everything but mp3's. VLC player had become default for 1 or 2 of the file types long after it had been installed.

Tools > Options > Performance > Click Restore Defaults

Tools > Options > File types > Click The Greyed Out File Types

WMP now functions properly, for me at least
