Thomson Lyra AV Jukebox (PDP2860) - Audio/Video Syc Problems

Hi Folks.

I recently bought the Thomson Lyra PDP2860 AV Jukebox. I can record to the Lyra directly from external sources such as TV, DVD...etc with no problems using the supplied scart/line in lead. The playback quality of both sound and video is excellent using this method.

My problem however is transferring video files from my PC to the Lyra. I have tried just about everything I can think of but I cannot get the audio to sync with the video on playback using this method.

The Lyra requires that video files are converted to .avi format with divx codec compatibility. MPEG4 is the recommended video codec with mp3 being the supported audio option for the Lyra.

I have downloaded and installed the trial version of Dr DivX. This application is used to convert the video files on my PC to .avi files conforming to the above format. The converted files transfer easily enough to my Lyra using the supplied USB cable. The files play back with excellent video and audio quality on my Lyra. The only problem is that audio and video are slightly out of sync. I have tried all sorts of tweaking with the audio and video bit rate settings but cannot seem to get them to sync.

When I attempt to play the file on the Lyra I get the brief message "MPEG4-ASP (B FRAMES DETECTED). FORMAT NOT SUPPORTED AUDIO SYNC MAY BE LOST". The video clip will then play albeit slightly out of sync. This is really frustrating as it is very cumbersome (and harder to edit) having to record the old fashion way via the TV or DVD.

I have updated my Lyra with the latest software version VO.17.11-MO9.05.37 dated 21 April 2004.

Has anyone any idea of how I can cure this problem or will I have to wait on Thomson to release some sort of fix?

Best Regards.

Satfanni.

I have had Dr Divx for a while and found it was not too bad , but you should really download Pocket Divx Encoder from the following link. I have the same machine and the conversion process is really quick .The interface is really easy to follow , use the Archos profile , but you can tweak it about !.

Hope this helps.

Thanx a million atreides. I took your advice and downloaded Pocket Divx.

This has worked a treat. Am still tweaking with the settings but have achieved a very good result so far.

Thanx again for taking the time to reply. It has been a great help
