how to use whois cmd in unix for websites with www.x.com/xxxx/ in it ???

Hello Everybody!

I am a new-linux user and I would like to know how to use the whois command for a website that is something like say, www.madlibran.com/home

The minute the "/" appears, i get an error saying host not found, can some on please enlighten me ??

I would be thankful if some one could give me a good link where to read about the above command too

If you are completely new to Unix, you are probably not familiar with "man" pages. Type "man" before any command and it will usually give you more information than you can stomach.

I am using Redhat and "whois yahoo.com" with no arguments returns all the data you would be looking for. I'm not sure if madlibran.com is a valid website, or if you just spelled it wrong, but I cannot connect to it.

Ah, I forgot to say, you don't want to search for pages on a site. You want to stick to the FQDN. In other words, don't include the /.
