Problems with windows XP pro and Nero

Here is one for you......

Two problems realy, which I do not think are related in any way:

1. Although the system is up and running fine, I cannot boot windows into safe mode. Plain and simple! Also, when I asked of CheckDisk to check the disk on next boot-up it does not happen.

2. Nero - I have nero 6.6.0.8 Ultra installed and also Vision express 3.1. Although I have a mega pack installed and the latest MPEG4 codecs (including DVIX and XVID installed on the system seprately), I can not add AVI files when trying to create a DVD (in Vision Express).

I manged to boot into safe mode eventualy. However, I did not manage to defragment the drive properly, which is the reason I tried to get into safe mode in the first place.

The problem with Nero and my DIVX and XVID is still ongoing....

Just incase people drop in here again -

I have managed to defrag the drive properly. The snag was a 7GB directory which sort of 'popped-up' from nowhere. Once I got rid of it, the defrag worked fine.

As for the codecs problem, I spoke to a freind and he suggested a different approach. I uninstalled both DIVX and XVID and instead installed the K-Lite Mega Pack which includes moer-or-less every codec under the sun. Everything is back to normal and working fine!
