I was reading a forum where a lot of people are having trouble with this game. You didn't mention what kind of system your on. But they said ATI sound cards were having trouble. Make sure your sound card driver is up to date. This may have caused you system conflicts try doing a recover system files in msconfig to fix the comp freezing up while searching the internet.

Try doing a restore system files. Also, have you checked for spyware? I would advise using something a little better than spybot and ad-aware, but it can't hurt to run them too. Last time I check, Webroot Spysweeper allowed you a free trial version with one update. It detected and removed (uncommon for free versions) and Spysweeper is a pretty good spyware program. Other than that, several things can make your system freeze up, does it stay froze up or does it unfreeze after a few minutes? Also, a lot of games like to replace some system files with their own, this can cause problems that may not be noticable right away, or until you go to do a specific thing. What was you doing right before it started freezing up on you? Games can mess with your system, I know I like to play games on mine to and have problems half the time because they mess with your system files. I didn't know you were on a winXP, don't know much about them but do know how games can mess with your system. Were you having this problem before the playing the game?

Go into your control panel and click on add new hardware. Try allowing it to detect it, if it don't chose "no, let me select hardware" then find your sound card and install your driver for it.

Not yet! If you have the CD for your sound card, go into your control panel\system click on device manager (make sure your viewing "view by device") find your sound card and click on it then go down and click on properties and see if it says working properly. If not click remove, this will uninstall your sound card.
Turn your sytem off. Remove sound card from your tower. Turn system on without sound card. Put your sound card CD in cd player and shut your computer off. Install sound card in your tower. Turn your system back on and your computer should detect new hardware and it should play the cd to install the driver.
