Unhappy software installation freezes or stops and exits install

for a while now ive been getting errors when i install games that
have .cab files and soon after that i got a pop saying i have a
registry errors. well i went and got a registry repair program a anti-
virus program, spyware remover. it fixed most of the problems but when
i try to install certain games like World of Warcraft it get to the
sound.mpq file or terrain.mpq file which comes after the sound.mpq
file. I went to www.worldofwarcraft.com site and did all of there
suggested ways to install the game and falied to install it still
freezes. I have changed my cd-rom drive setting form dynamic to PIO
and back i have copied all the files to a folder in the hard drive and
installed it that way but still freezes once it got to the second cd
then got an .cab error. I tried installing an old game like command
and conquer renegade it installes to a point and then exits the
install just poof. I have used all of my repair programs and spyware
removal things and defrag then scan disk and still it does the same
thing. i have an pentium 4 2.8 512 megs or ram but registers as 448
megs of ram i have a radeon 9100 a 40 gig hard drive realteck ac'97
sound card i changed OS from XP home edition to windows 2000 to fix
the problems i still get the same ones from both systems. Then all
went away with the registry repair program with still some here and
there errors im still trying to fix those but i dont know what to do a
formate didnt work a formate to a different system didnt work the only
games i got to install are command and conquer generals and expansion
the first installed no problem the expansion got .cab errors i just
click try again and it eventualy installed some times it said i have
low memory space or a network error or a problem with the cd-rom
communicating to the system or that my hardware could be overheating
or not compatible, all errors were listed together at times. I get
other programs to install like direct x, yahoo messenger, the registry
repair program etc.. I am about to give up this i my last hope then i
go to the computer store here and see they can fix it here in Osan AB,
South Korea i would mean a lot to me if you can help me and thank you
for taking your time to read my e-mail it would mean a lot to me if
you help me.

How old is the game?
Sounds to me your trying to install an older game not designed for the NT family operating systems.
The funny thing is some games for older systems will work, but for the most part they won't! It's a little to technical to get into here.
One thing you can try that has worked sometimes in the past for me is to find the install file on the cd, right click it select properties, then compatability tab and from there try different compatability setting using different combinations each time. This is not fool proof, but sometimes it does work.
p.s. Look on the box that came with the cd and see what operating system it was designed for, if yours is not listed chances are it's not gonna work!

I tried changing the compatability and tried changing it while i was in safe mode when i did it in safe mode i was able to get the game to install to about 40% but then it froze on another file. The game is recent its World of Warcraft came out late 2004 i believe. So im still in the same spot
