files lost during Nero startsmart backup

Hi

While a collegue was attempting to back up Lotus 123 97 spreadsheets on the pc using Nero 6 BackItup, they choose to copy it on dvd (by mistake)and then left pc to complete task. When they returned machine had finished but no successful backup message displayed. They attempted to open the disk to view files but windows explorer said disk was empty. Then while attempting to open the spreadsheet files on HD, Lotus would not open and requested reinstall. Which collegue did only to find NO work files now in Lotus folder, where they were previous to Nero6 backup!

Now I have reinstalled Lotus over the top before and it left all my work files intact so I dont think thats what lost them. Since then I have tried to duplicate what collegue did and files always backup to disk and stay on HD aswell no problems.

Cant find any original sprteadsheet files using search and cant find any .nbi files either? Anyone any idea what happened to them? and if they would be retrievable from RAM as haven't switched pc off yet?
