Smile Windows XP doesnt recognize PSP or MP3 player..

I am not getting any sort of recognition when I connect these to the USB ports. I have tried 3 different ports. One always tells me I have a power surge on that port, the others say nothing. When I click on My Computer, there is nothing there showing the device. I went to add new hardware in the control panel, to no avail. I just installed the cd rom that came with the PSP, but it was basically a software program to help convert files for the device to read.

My MP3 player (Creative NomadIIC) isnt recognized in my computer or the Creative Playcenter like it used to be. But it will be recognized by Windows Media Player. Very odd. This just happened out of the blue one day, and I cant even pinpoint a day it started. I would appreciate any help possible. i couldnt tell if this was a hardware (port) problem or software (windows) problem. THX again
