Unhappy Excel Date Format Help Needed!

Help! I have a CFO that uses excel to track expenses among other things. He wants to change his default input for dates to mm/yy. "5/3" entered in a cell would mean May, 2003. We have changed the date settings in the control panel>regional options to reflect this, but Excel is still misinterpreting the dates.

I believe that Excel converts dates to serial numbers for internal purposes, and hence needs a specific day (as opposed to a month) to create the serial number. If a day is needed, it would be better to interpret "5/3" as May 31, 2003.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Only way I know of is to format the cells you put in the dates. This has to be done before dates are put in or you will have to re-enter the dates. I tried real quick and for input of 5/03 the cell would say May-03. If it is a standard report, maybe you could format and CFO just fills in the dates and numbers?
Or teach him/her how to format the cells "format\cells\number...

I got some help on a solution from another forum. It's a piece of VBA code that will convert the data as soon as the enter key is pressed.
