Best way it to use DVD Decrypter

This program will transfer the contents of the DVD to your hard drive.

You can then use the XviD codec to make your movies more compact using this codec and type of compression it supports.

To achieve this use this program called SimpleDivX. You can then turn a 6GB movie into a 700-800 MB .avi without sound of picture loss.

Enjoy

Awesome! I think I just blew out to birds with one stone. I was going to ask if anyone knows how to convert DVD fromat to DivX and one of these apps seems to be able to.

Of course I have one more.. what about a FREE virtual drive maker? I want to copy my CD/DVD dics into a iso files that windows will see as a disc, liek Viirtual Drive.

DVD Shrink

I use a free programme called DVD shrink. This little beauty is easy to use and takes care of everything for you. You can cut out all of the rubbish you don't want to save. i use it aklong with Nero- for playback- it's a cracker. Just put dvd shrink into your search engine and download this tiny little free file.

AUTOGK and AUTOGK Assistant.
Give it the DVD or DVD folder, and it'll do what you want. Works with files also. It's a combo of several programs that work under one interface. Real easy and convieniant. Don't need to hunt for stuff or set any of it up. It also does really great encodes. It runs a compressability test, does a 2 pass encode, allows a diff comp. level for credits etc. Takes a bit of getting used too, with the advanced options, but it can be used as is too.

Daemon tools is free for non-commercial use. Try ultra iso maker, will read and make iso files for you. I do the same thing, but I convert many of my videos to xvid, the smaller dvd files I keep as is and iso them. Then I use Tvedia to watch tv and my vid collection all by remote!

fun!

luck

That's BS. I'm tired of people who say you can compress a 9 gig movie to 4 gig, or 700 MB, without losing any quality. You ARE losing quality, whether you like it or not. Whether you NOTICE it or not. You cannot compress video that much without losing quality. If you think you can, you don't understand how the compression process works. Most of the time when I use DVD Shrink to put a 9 gig movie to a 4.5 gig disc, I don't notice much difference. Unless I watch it on a big screen, then you can see some. And if you're compressing it down to 700 MB, you'd have to be nearly blind not to see the difference!
